How This Calculator Works

Compound interest earns "interest on interest." The more frequent the compounding and the longer the horizon, the faster your balance accelerates. This calculator includes both an initial lump sum and recurring monthly contributions.

Formula

A = P(1 + r/n)^(nt) + PMT × [((1+r/n)^(nt) − 1) / (r/n)]

Example

$10,000 plus $250/mo at 7% compounded monthly for 20 years grows to about $164,000, of which ~$94,000 is contributed and ~$70,000 is interest.

Practical Use Cases
