How This Calculator Works

Inflation raises the nominal price of goods while shrinking what a fixed dollar amount can buy. This calculator shows both the future cost of today's basket of goods and the real (inflation-adjusted) value of your money.

Formula

Future Cost = P × (1 + r)^t; Real Value = P / (1 + r)^t

Example

$10,000 at 3% inflation over 10 years means the same goods cost ~$13,439, while your $10,000 only buys ~$7,441 worth.

Practical Use Cases

  • Long-term budgeting
  • Salary negotiation
  • Investment real-return analysis
